KYPHOSIS
Kyphosis is an unnatural bending of the upper back that looks similar to a hunchback. Although a small curvature is normal, severe kyphosis can lead to discomfort, stiffness, and problems with appearance.
The development of kyphosis can be attributed to multiple factors. The age-related degeneration of the discs between vertebrae is a common cause of Scheuermann’s kyphosis. Abnormal spine curvature can also be brought on by traumas, osteoporosis, and birth abnormalities.
People who have kyphosis may encounter:
● A bent over position like a hunchback
● Back pain, especially when standing or walking
● Having trouble staying upright
● Chest tightness or pain
Diagnosis of kyphosis typically involves a physical examination, X-rays, and occasionally an MRI scan to assess the degree of curvature. Therapy is based on the cause and degree of severity. Regular workouts that emphasise on stronger back and core muscles can help with mild kyphosis by reducing pain and improving posture. Bracing could be advised in mild situations to provide support. In severe cases, surgery may be required to correct severe kyphosis and improve spinal alignment and curvature.
